This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, diverse, and based in heritage that bring people together. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
