The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed sci-fi show reaching its finale—and a second season greenlit and underway—the creative team opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Audience Reaction

One could easily to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and online debates surrounding Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's by design. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by online forums.”

“Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Does the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that the creative staff aren’t being guided by fan response, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“We have some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to abandon a solid concept for a better idea. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, one could always use the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
