Former President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the loved ones of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Tragic Shooting
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their honor.
Presidential Offer
The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a White House visit for the parents of both members of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president addressed reporters. “And likewise with him, recover or not.”
Community Response
Community members gathered over the weekend at the high school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both they had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to support policing efforts in Washington DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that educators hoped for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her previous school, informed the press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always eager to assist people.”
Funeral arrangements for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Legal Steps and Government Adjustments
Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The incident led the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and halt granting entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.
Condition of the Airman
The airman, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor the governor said on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on the program that she aimed to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a military police officer with honor, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had fortitude,” Morrisey addressed the audience at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
