Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any impact is unclear and the United States has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their territorial skies.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That preceding assault - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military said it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a number of missiles," it added.

It said debris landed in a populated district in the capital, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
