Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Defeat

Arne Slot admitted that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his future after a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got significant support from above,” Slot remarked.

“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points of course but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”

He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”

Conversations with The Board

When asked to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “In the normal discussions I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Problems and Player Response

The manager lamented familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period of this nature with outcomes so bad.”

Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”

“We will attempt to get this team return to where it needs to be, prove once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”

“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
